This sign is clear enough. The "strange" thing about it was that it was located in a small town in BC, Canada, where the crime level is probably among the lowest in North America.

this sign can be seen on several parking lots along the highways in Belgium. I find this a bit scary and definitely not to appropriate, Belgium being among the safe places in Europe (overall pretty safe). You're never too prudent...
